Materialism

What a role does it play today what we possess. In many wealthy countries it is not even a matter whether or not you can afford it but everyone has it. Pretty much anyone has a smartphone these days, and this is even coming to poorer countries, a mobile phone can ensure existence and so nowadays play a huge role in almost the whole planet - now 7,5 billion people. This world is advancing and evolving with materialism.
Despite that, in many western countries almost everyone has the chance to possess several items if they wish to, a car, laptop, TV, house, all these things are also seen as status symbol in those societies.
Our global economy developed more and more and is now at a peak, being richer than ever before, more people than ever before accumulating even more wealth. What is going to happen with this?

It is in the human instinct to feel safe and comfortable, usually first fight for survival and as soon as that was separating us from all other animals, we ensured worryless survival, we looked more and more towards other things, were aspired by knowledge and wanted to understand the world, come up with new inventions which is why we are here now with our technology. We conquered this planet and took over everything because we demanded the right to possess this world for ourselves.
This is where materialism was born.
We came up with more and more inventions and made those accessible to the public, with the goal of letting everyone live a free and comfortable life. Of course this not always achieved and definitely not around the world, but as said earlier this helped in various ways to boost tourism, marketing, connecting places. Materialism is a big thing in everyone’s life, nowadays even way more than 70 or 100 years ago, which is not long for development and evolution. This technological evolution is very powerful and we have got to keep it under control, do not destroy our planet for the sake of it and handle all the masses in the future on this planet.
As materialism is so profound now in people’s lives, the world will more and more develop towards this, how that will be handled will be the path changing part.

As an individual, what should you do. The whole world around you is behaving in a certain way, all with the goal of accumulating more wealth and possessing even more. Is this not strange?
