The contrast day

Being on this planet we have different moments, different days and times. But what has happened to me this one day in Laos was just unbelievable.
It all started with renting scooters. Our little cute and so funny trio we formed spontaneously the day before went to the shop, infecting everybody with our positive energy, making so many locals smile already early in the day.
After struggling to shift gears since I have not driven a semi-automatic one before, I got more and more used to eat starting to really enjoy the drive. On roads which are in amazingly good condition for Laos, we drove through the small country villages, in nice curves up and down the hills surrounded by extraordinary beautiful nature with so many great trees.
Arriving at the Kuang Si waterfall we were completely amazed by its beauty. After going for a quick swim in the bottom pools going further up was blowing our minds showing us the most beautiful waterfall we have seen so far. We needed some food making us ready for a hike and a great adventure. As we went up the trail we were looking for a secret pool we were told of, when finally finding it we had to do some work to get there. Sneaking in under spiky fences, climbing on small cliffs and passing wooden constructions, people came up with lots of stuff to stop others going here, but eventually everyone of us made it and the reward was the best ever. Having your own private pool with the huge waterfall right next to you is something only very few people can experience and you are one of the lucky ones.
In this incredible place we chilled for a while, everyone of us having so much live joy in ourselves, singing, dancing, smiling, just being incredibly happy. Looking at this massive gift nature gave us, feeling how alive we actually are, and how grateful we can be for that, being able to be in such an breathtaking place with such amazing people.
After we came home again it was time to eat and so we went to a local street food place next to the river trying chicken feet and other exotic skewers. The impact of the day was totally reflecting in our conversation and so we shared amazing thoughts about deep topics like being present in your life and enjoying every moment you are gifted, therefore the lovely scenery next to the river helped. Two lovely local women came over to us teaching us some words andn we laughed crazily. Making it kind of the perfect dinner with deep conversations and insane laughs.
After having a few drinks in Utopia we went to go bowling which apparently is a very popular place for going out in Luang Prabang, especially after the bars close. Having interesting conversations there too but at some point I felt that I had enough and so decided to go home. Apparently the way was not too long and as I especially after such a day needed some time for myself I decided to walk.
Writing some beautiful thoughts down, enjoying music and the quiet night when suddenly, out of nowhere I lie under a car. A big pick up has hit me frontal in my back so I fell over. Luckily the car was high enough and at that point already slowed down that nothing severe happened. Or at least it could have been a lot worse. The driver was obviously drunk or influenced in other ways as he did not look normal and you usually do not just drive over pedestrians. After apologizing many times, fearing that I will go to the police he gave me some money and drove me back home. To the hospital was too far for him though and risky and so I ended up being at my hostel.
There I ran into my friends and some Israelic guys who were a medic in the army giving me some first aid trying to clean the wounds on my foot a bit. Because as the tuktuk driver, even after big discussions refused to bring me into hospital, we had to find another way. As it did not look well clean we tried it another time to tell the tuk tuk driver I really need to go to hospital with this big wound. After suggesting ridiculous prices for the drive we finally head off to get some proper medical aid.
Randomly one guy was coming with us we did not even know but as he knew I will get some pain killers he was very keen on joining. Stupidly the whole drive wanting to put his bottle of whisky on my foot, I was happy when we finally reached the hospital. There it all went fast and they directly treated my wounds.
The guy was getting bored, jumping around, taking wheelchairs, balancing on the big wheel until he eventually fell on his back. The whole hospital staff was not sure what to do with such a crazy person trying to calm him down but nothing could stop him.  The treatment was painful as they rubbed out all the dirt many times but after almost crushing my friend’s hand since it hurt so much they bandaged it very well and I was good to go.
The whole treatment cost me 2€ and then it was time to get some medication. The nurse did not speak very well English but the guy found out she is Chinese and suddenly they were having a big discussion in fluent Chinese about what medication to get.
Of course he was very confident that I need the strongest they have because I will not be able to sleep without. In order to convince the nurse of that he was touching my leg and said I have to scream then.
After about half an hour of discussion his goal was achieved and he finally got his Valium. He convinced the nurse that I need two weeks of Valium and so one package was for him, one for me. Directly he popped one of the pills and as the second fell out of the hand of this junkie, rolling on the ground, he had to search it quickly already without any motoric reactions. He explained me that one makes you feel sleepy but two make you feel great.
It was time to finally leave and as there were no tuk tuks the guy was suggesting to either steal a motorbike or at least a wheelchair. We eventually just went to the nurse again and asked how we can go home so they called an ambulance van, which would have been a lot smarter to take that in the first place as well, but we could not expect they have it here and the tuk tuk driver said he does not know any ambulance number. Being in the free ambulance van the junkie almost broke his shin as he did not see the steps of the van and of course had two Valium and alcohol in himself. Telling me that the most he took in one night is ten, together with lots of other crazy stuff he talked on the drive back home. How he was in hospitals very often, is used to all of these medication and wheelchairs. When we finally got home I quickly went into my bed and had some rest.

This day was absolutely extraordinary. Probably something I have never experienced in this way, with so extreme contrasts of such a big high on life, having wonderful people combined with wonderful nature when suddenly a everything crashes and out of nowhere you get run over by a car.
This day had it both, the ups and the downs - this is life. Once again I have felt how happy I am to be alive, in the happy way that I feel so grateful to experience such a good day as well as in the bad way that I am happy to survive a car accident and that only with minor damage. This one day had it all and so it will stay in special memory.
