After the accident in Lao hospital

The accident feeling

It is this tiny moment before an accident happens. The millisecond before the actual crash will change something in your life. In this moment you see the headlights coming behind you, the car braking heavily - then it hits you. From this moment on, the next couple of seconds will stay deeply in your life’s memory.
It is a big pick up pushing you onto the ground and drag you over it for a little until he finally comes to a full stop. This will cause some nasty skin injuries but luckily the car was not any faster so apart from a little back pain nothing major happened. The wounds are annoying, especially in Asia with the infection danger and even more when they are in places like your ankle where the skin moves constantly but is nothing compared to what could have happened. When a car hits you frontal in the back you could be dead, in a wheelchair or at least several broken bones. You have been extremely lucky that the driver was not any faster.

In the moment of laying on the ground, half under the car you do not realize quite yet what has happened. You think about if you are already dead or still living. After realizing you are still alive, you start finding out if you are able to walk. There is so much adrenaline in your body that you do not know yet how bad your injury is but as you see you can stand up again fairly well, you can be sure you are quite okay. Not even a broken bone, how lucky is this. There comes the main relief, you and your mind have been so close to death, the small injuries you actually suffer from this kind of accident are nothing to the fear you had for a couple of seconds what might have happened after you saw the headlights coming on you.

After the hours and days pass by you always get remembered how lucky people can be in accidents and how much you were.
You start getting another appreciation for life, being so close to a situation of death or being paraplegic for the rest of your life with just a little more speed of the car driver. Every single person in this world is lucky to be alive and we should appreciate it with every single day we wake up as we never know which is the last one and therefore have to enjoy the moments we are able to live and feel on this planet as much as we can.

My last notes:
Live here in the now, the steps you make through a Laos' town, while living the dream everyone wants to, being barefoot, feeling so alive

I will always keep this way of living, why not experiencing life how it is in other countries, this can give you such an amazing, yet unique world view

For every second I am grateful, every moment I can live this life
