Malay impressions

The long 12hour journey by ferry, bus and plane is finally almost over and your friend is already awaiting you kindly at the airport since two hours. As the airport is so far out of the city you take the express train. After finally checking in you no sleeping yet as you decide to visit two very famous twin towers. Unfortunately you experience the real Kuala Lumpur already and so it starts raining massively.
The next day it is time to celebrate Chinese New Year’s eve. All together go to the supermarket buying heaps of fresh food, not speaking much English but it does not matter as even some being a bit shy sometimes, the way Chinese people are guest friendly is amazing. Nobody ever asks you for money and does everything to make you feel comfortable and so you cook together for hours (better than any cooking class) at a student home with everyone being happy and enjoying this New Year’s eve in the typical way. TV shows, mostly comedy are playing loudly on the laptop and the talking is also noticeably louder than we are used to, as you spend the whole day with only these people it feels like being in China for one day leaving a very interesting impression behind. When the spicy food is ready lots of pictures are taken after which everybody shares a big table with many plates full of seafood and fruits.
On your way back home it is time to experience Malaysian culture for the first time, many people come together on the street late at night enjoying the local folk music. You see so many people being happy, talking to you kindly and suddenly you find yourself in that crowd dancing for a little, between hundreds of people having a good time, everybody with a big smile on their faces. You take selfies, have quick chats and feel welcomed as a white man in this foreign country.
